Premonitions 1980-1985, 4LP set, due late April

Here’s one for the folks who keep asking me whether I’ll release an album on vinyl. Four discs of music from my formative years, most of it never before released. It also contains the strongest sections of the 1984 “Live” cassette, and the cyclic introduction from the original “Inner Landscapes.” I made new 24/96 digital transfers from original master tapes. It’s coming out in Germany on the label Vinyl On Demand (VOD122), and I’ll import 40 copies for listeners here in the USA. International shipping will be expensive for this, as it’s big and heavy, so I request to my European, Asian and Canadian listeners that they go directly to VoD to order the set. It’s at this link: http://www.vinyl-on-demand.com/-1-402-472.htm

If you are in the USA and you want to reserve one of these 40 copies of “Premonitions”, for purchase through our order form, you can use the CONTACT link up above on this site, and let me know your name, email, and shipping address. I’ll contact you when the records arrive. The price will be around $75 plus shipping. If more than 40 of you want to reserve a copy, I might be able to import more, but it will help me to know how many because they are a bit expensive. Thanks for listening! – Robert

P.S. I should also mention that a downloadable version of this release will not be made available until after the limited edition of 500 is sold out.

  2. Hi Robert.

This sounds wonderful, but Is there any chance of a CD release?

  3. Hi Simon – Alas, there is no plan to make a CD release in the foreseeable future, although I do plan to release it for download after the LPs are sold out. – RR

  4. Hi Rob
Must echo Simon’s request for a CD release!
Am puzzled as to why one would want ambient music on LP? Got rid of my turntable and LP’s years ago as all the snap, crackle and pop irritated me.
Guess a download would be second best; but would love to see this out on CD!
    Best wishes
    Chris

  5. I also vote for a CD release of these gems.

  6. It’s a complicated answer regarding an official CD release. Fundamentally, the VoD label in Germany is committed exclusively to putting out LPs, and they take a rather large risk with expensive pressings. Of course I keep all publishing to the music, but I promised not to compete with them by putting it out in other formats until the vinyl sells out – which could be a while, it’s hard to say. Considering that this music is only seeing daylight because VoD has made a project of releasing such artifacts of the cassette underground on LP, I feel it is important to respect their limited approach. – RR

  11. Another fantastic and amazing release from Robert, one of the greatest ambient musicians in the world since years. The idea of releasing a 4LP box set is quite original and I can’t resist to order it immediately from VOD. Thanks Robert !

  12. Well, after a few listening, what could I say ? Shifting soundscapes, swirling synth lines, dark or soft atmospheric textures, ethereal climates, smooth hypnotic drones, minimal sequencer patterns, nature sounds, glissando guitar… Every Robert Rich’s personal music touch is here, either in studio or in concert. A definitely great box set showcasing Robert’s first steps in the large world of ambient music. A must have, not to be missed !

  13. Great set. This has a lot of similarity to Pete Namlook’s work in the 90s. This predates it of course! Wonderful music.
