iPhone Somnium & Portugal

I’m still writing from the road. If you are near Seattle, come listen on Thursday July 1 at 8:00 PM, The Chapel Performance Space at Good Shepherd Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N., Seattle (SW corner of 50th). Here are two other tidbits:

Somnium iPhone app:

Anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch can now play hours of randomly crossfading loops extracted from the full Somnium for a mere $0.99. The app was created by Henry Bergin, the 14 year old son of John Bergin, my go-to guy for cover art. Cool family? Yup. Here’s the link to the Somnium app (and you’ll notice some of Henry’s sillier creations.)

Portugal Boom Festival:

About when I thought I was done touring, I got an invitation from Portugal to close out the Boom Festival on August 26 at the lake of Idanha-a-Nova in the mountains near the Spanish border. I should be starting my set around midnight after August 25, into the morning of the 26th. The set might merge into an improvisation with some of the other musicians at the festival, including perhaps my longtime acquaintance Jacque Dudon, a fellow microtonalist who creates his own optical synthesizers. Ishq and Murcof should also be there, among dozens of others from around the world, so we’ll have some cool sounds I think.

  1. Ishq has released some beautiful music, reminiscent of the best aspects of the Future Sound of London. Have fun and let me know if you need a roadie. ;)

  2. Portugal!!! Wow! I would love to fly to Portugal to see this festival and see Robert headlining. I already flew to London ealier this year to see Edgar Froese and Tangerine Dream perform at the historic Royal Albert Hall. I will have to look into Robert’s performance.

  3. The iPhone app is great! The intermixing is subtle and has a great of effect to having an endless soundtrack for the entire day.

Kudos to the young, creative entrepreneur.

  5. Thanks for the Somnium App.
I will enjoy this for hours and hours, just as I did enjoy the DVD version from 2001.

  6. Hi Robert

I had already been told you were coming to Boom, but just now that i read it in your website, i believe you are really coming to play in Portugal.

I’m a big admirer of you music since 1991, when i ordered the LP “Numena” wow what a blessing… at that time i was having a big trouble in my life and insomnia was tormenting me for months… the day a received you disc i sarted reading a book about pranayama tecnhics… that same day o went to sleep listening the cd and deep breeding and miracle hapenned i got rid of insomnia that day and never had that problem again. Then i went to study yoga, chi kung and keept buyng all your cd’s i could find :)

Of course i worship “Numena” above all, but i also love “Trances / Drones” very much

I’m so happy i can listen to you live in a special place as Boom.

I will also be playing live there and djing at Healing Area, Temple of Sound ( a much deeper chill out / healing sounds zone ) where you music will be played for shure.

  7. The Somnium app is wonderful. I work while listening to ambient music and have had, until this, engineered my own less elegant solutions to enjoying wonderful music like yours. Thanks to all involved!
