June 2011 – lecture, recording
by on June 2, 2011 in Recent Activity

Sorry for taking so long to update my activities. I have been hiding out in the studio working on a new album, tentatively titled “Medicine Box”, with lots of thick rhythms and sinuous melodies. Hopefully I’ll have it released before the end of the year.

I’ll give a lecture and demo at local Foothill College on Wednesday June 8. I plan to offer a quick and lighthearted introduction to the ideas and technologies behind audio mastering, show some examples of “good sounding” and “bad sounding” masters, discuss the future of commercial recording, and ways to stop the Loudness Wars. Then I’ll open up the conversation to audience questions, and demonstrate methods of integrating live instruments with laptop improvisation. For those in the south SF Bay area, it will be at:
Foothill College, Building 1100
12345 El Monte Rd
Los Altos Hills, CA
7-10 PM, Wed., June 8

Further into the future, plans are forming to play several concerts in Australia in January/February of 2012. These will include a couple big festivals, and smaller concerts, maybe even a sleep concert. I guess that means I might get out to perform a bit around North America as well.

Thanks for listening. – Robert
